Dr. Andrea Watkins, MD is a Psychiatrist who is board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology. She is a North Carolina native who moved to the DMV area for residency training. Dr. Watkins graduated from Spelman College, magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she obtained her Doctorate in Medicine and Master’s in Public Health. Dr. Watkins has a passion for treating the underserved and an interest in increasing access to mental health services across all levels of care. Dr. Watkins completed residency training at the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt where she held the title of Chief Resident of Inpatient Services. Following residency, she has worked in a variety of treatment sectors including inpatient, outpatient, and partial hospitalization within the psychiatric and dual diagnosis space. She has over 10 years of leadership experience, leveraging the growth and development of, growth, and expansion of care for several Inpatient and Outpatient Substance Use and Behavioral Health Treatment facilities across Maryland, DC, and Virginia. She is a thought leader in the field of quality improvement and believes whole heartedly in patient-centered care that values the individual. She has been Nationally Recognized as a 2016 National Leading Physician of the World and a 2018 Top Doctor Award Recipient. She serves on the Howard County Behavioral Health Authority Board. In her free time, she likes to do yoga, exercise, and cook. She has a special interest in the relationship between nutrition and mental health. Her motto is “eat yourself to health”.
